Truth is a lifelong pursuit, and learning a lifelong activity. Nevertheless, while the present education system demands intensive effort at the very beginning of our lives, it offers little opportunity for learning thereafter. As society moves from industrial, with an emphasis on the production of material wealth, to information-based, in which value is ascribed to the creation of knowledge, a complete turnaround in ideas is required from passive education to active learning, and from communicating uniform information to creating original information. ARK Toshijuku was established at ARK Hills, a symbol of the modern city, in response to these demands from the community, to provide unique learning opportunities for people with an active desire to participate in shaping the future, symbolized in Japan by the transition from the Showa to the Heisei era. We trust that many more people will continue to contribute to the future development of our world, based on what they have learned and the people they have encountered here.
