- Fifth "Academyhills/Georgetown University/Columbia University Mori Special Lecture"
Columbia University joined the lecture series, with videoconference links to three locations. The topic of discussion was "Foreign Economic Policy of the New American Administration:Toward a Focus on the Problems of Japanese-American Commerce." Participants on the Japanese side included Heizo Takenaka, Jiro Tamura, Hidejiro Urata (Professor, Waseda University), and Motohisa Furukawa (Member, House of Representatives, National Diet of Japan);participants on the American side included Arthur Alexander (Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service), Edward Graham (Senior Fellow, Institute for International Economics), Eric Altbach(Regional Economic Analyst, U.S. Department of State Bureau of Intelligence and Research), Hugh Patrick (Professor, Columbia University) and Merit Janow (Professor, Columbia University).

- "CMnet Management Council" Inaugural Meeting
A demonstration of the CMnet website(a web-based open market for contracting construction work), and seminar on "The Possibilities of an Open Marketplace for Architecture." Seiichiro Yonekura served as coordinator; panelists included Takuya Ishikawa(Assistant Manager, Bidding System Planning Office, Policy Bureau Construction Division, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), Jiro Kokuryo, Tadasu Ohe, and Yasuyuu Ito (Managing Director, Mori Building Co., Ltd.).

The "eHills Club," a membership-based area portal site established in cooperation with Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc., began experimental operations.

- "Latest Real Estate Business Lectures" CD-ROM & Sub-notebook Went On Sale
Educational CD-ROMs, containing lectures on business practices in the real estate industry, produced by ARK Toshijuku for individual home study. Instructed by ARK Toshijuku's real estate business course teacher, Masakuni Tamura (CEO, ArcBrain Inc.).

- "BS Academyhills Nippon Future Vision of Japan Map" Went on Air
Launch of business information program exploring the direction Japan should take in the 21st century, with Seiichiro Yonekura,Tadasu Ohe and Motoshige Itoh as navigators. The first episode featured a discussion by Messrs. Yonekura, Ohe and Itoh on the topic of "Cities and Regions."

- First Meeting of the Trademark Tokyo Project Committee
Launched to develop proposals for the cultural strategy that would position Tokyo as a cultural hub, and allow Japan to disseminate culture (of which it can be proud) as a form of industry to the world, in anticipation of the 2003 completion of Roppongi Hills.

- ARK Toshijuku Started Its 28th Session
Featured a comprehensive program of business courses including "Business Innovation" taught by Seiichiro Yonekura, "Business Economics School" by Motoshige Itoh, and "Planning Toolbox" by Kenichiro Senoh. In the field of "art and architecture," Toshiharu Itoh, Kengo Kuma and Naoto Fukasawa (product designer/President, IDEO Japan) established the Tokyo Art, Architecture & Design Studio, an art school employing a workshop format.

Showcasing the work of students from the first session of the Tokyo AAD Studio. Symposia and public judging also held over this time; altogether the exhibition attracted more than 1,000 visitors.
